As soon as you arrive at Thornbury Castle, you feel as though you have stepped back in time. Many of the 26 sumptuous bedchambers have four-poster beds, and the décor throughout the hotel artfully recreates the Tudor style in which royalty and aristocracy would have languished, feasted and been entertained.
Dining / function rooms
Couples can dine in peace and privacy next to a roaring fire, while a family celebrating an anniversary can enjoy the conviviality of a dining room all to themselves. Meanwhile, wedding parties, business functions or black-tie events of up to 66 people can be catered for in exclusive style and with impeccable service.
The Tower Dining Room
Dominated by a magnificent open fireplace and arrow-slit windows, you cannot fail to be charmed by the unique atmosphere of this hexagonal room which seats up to 30 people.
The Baron’s Sitting Room
Whether you are planning a lavish lunch with views over the vineyard and castle walls or a cosy dinner party accompanied by a roaring fire, this intimate room seats up to 22 people. Its annexe, the Chancellor Lounge area, is ideal for pre- or post-prandial drinks.
For nearly six centuries, our grand hall has been hosting parties, balls and great feasts. Lined with tapestries, suits of armour and exposed stone walls, it retains the essence of its historical grandeur. It now also has underfloor heating and a new satellite kitchen providing separate catering for up to 66 guests. There are two adjoining rooms which can be used as separate meeting rooms or even an uber luxe casino. Pass the Martini, Mr Bond.

Wander the grounds and listen to the chatter of woodpeckers, the click-clack of croquet balls and the thwack of arrows hitting a target. Thornbury’s grounds are an unchanging, bucolic scene where today’s guests are literally walking in the footsteps of monarchy and nobles throughout the ages.
You may want to try your hand at archery, falconry and croquet, or just settle for exploring the 14 acres of landscaped grounds and investigating the carefully tended kitchen garden that supplies much of the fresh fruit and vegetables for the restaurant.
