Thornbury Castle boasts 26 sumptuous bedchambers, two private dining rooms including a Tudor hall and beautiful walled gardens with a 500 year old vineyard.

Dining/function rooms

Savour a truly indulgent taste of English history whilst admiring the majestic setting.

There are four dining rooms (two of them available for private hire) offering extremely flexible space and enabling us to cater for from two to 60 diners. All four rooms have fireplaces, fine pictures, elegant tableware and leaded windows, so whether you want to enjoy a quiet meal with your partner, celebrate a family anniversary or hold a business function, you can be sure the surroundings and service will make it a special occasion.

Within the castle walls there is also a 500 year old vineyard where the Muller Thurgau grape is grown and harvested allowing diners to further enhance their dining experience by enjoying this superb white wine.

The Tower Dining Room

A unique, hexagonal room with large, imposing arrow-slit windows and magnificent open fireplace. This room has great character and makes for an unforgettable castle dining experience. It can seat a maximum of 30 persons.

The Baron's Sitting Room

This is a delightful dining room for small exclusive lunch or dinner parties seating up to 22 people. The room is wood panelled with an imposing original fireplace and deep-set windows with views over the vineyard, castle walls and courtyard. A lovely addition to this room is The Chancellor Lounge area where you can enjoy an aperitif before sitting down for lunch or dinner.

Tudor Hall

The Tudor Hall, a 16th century large open hall, is accentuated by an abundance of original features; suits of armour, tapestries and exposed walls give this room a distinctive and unforgettable atmosphere. And for the ultimate comfort, it also has underfloor heating, radiating through original oak floor boards. Alongside the newly-completed satellite kitchen which provides AA rosette quality food, the Tudor Hall also has two adjoining rooms, The Great Oven and The Boyling House, both of which can be utilised as additional space for your function – a private bar, for instance, or perhaps a casino room. The Tudor Hall is available for private dining, special occasions and private business meetings, accommodating from two to 100 guests.

One of the most enjoyable pastimes at Thornbury is simply to wander around the castle and the grounds, following the footsteps of one of the most famous and infamous Kings of England and those of one of his many ill-fated brides.

The castle is also a wonderfully evocative setting for croquet, archery and falconry. Fishing, quad biking and other activities are available nearby and the castle is ideally situated for exploring the West Country, the Welsh borders and the Cotswolds. There is also a charming Victorian gatehouse within the grounds with two bedrooms and its own secluded gardens offering complete privacy but with full access to the castle and all its facilities.
