Directions to Thornbury Castle, BS35 1HH

By road from the M5 South

Leave at Junction 16, and then take the A38 North for approximately 6 miles.  At the 2nd set of traffic lights next to the Alveston House Hotel and Berkeley Motors, turn left and take the B4061 into Thornbury.  Then follow the B4061 down the hill, straight over the mini roundabout and through Thornbury High Street.  At the bottom of the High Street bear left (by the National Westminster Bank).  There is a monumental water pump in the middle of the road.  This is Castle Street.  At the bottom of Castle Street you will see the entrance gates for the Castle on the left-hand side of St. Mary’s Church.

By road from London (and Heathrow) via the M4

By road from Wales via the M48

Leave at Junction 1, then follow the signs for Thornbury for approximately 6 miles until the see The Ship Hotel in front of you.  Turn left onto the B4061 into Thornbury. Then follow the B4061 down the hill, straight over the mini roundabout and through Thornbury High Street.  At the bottom of the High Street bear left (by the National Westminster Bank).  There is a monumental water pump in the middle of the road.  This is Castle Street.  At the bottom of Castle Street you will see the entrance gates for the Castle on the left-hand side of St. Mary’s Church.

By road from the M5 North

Leave at Junction 14 and take the A38 South for approximately 2 miles.  Turn right onto the B4061 into Thornbury (signposted).  Continue on the B4061 and take the right right-hand turn after the Anchor Inn into Whitfield Road.  This leads into Park Road, and then just past St. Mary’s Church on the right-hand side you will find the entrance gates to the Castle.

By train

From London Paddington to Bristol Parkway – a journey of approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.  There are taxis outside the station and the journey to Thornbury Castle will take approximately 20 minutes.

By air
