It’s the most wonderful time of the year, especially if you are staying with us here at Thornbury Castle. Not only does the castle look exquisite with the festive decorations and stunning lights illuminating the 500 year old stone walls, but we have Christmas markets, events and light displays only a short distance from the hotel. Here are some of our favourite festive things to see and do:
From Thursday 23rd November - Sunday 10th December 2023, you can visit the Bath Christmas Market where the picturesque streets are transformed into a magical, festive experience. With over 150 stalls to browse, there is a huge variety of artisan craft makers offering anything from stylish homewares to jewellery and delicious local produce - you’ll almost certainly be pick up a unique gift for loved ones this Christmas. If you’re feeling peckish, there are also many food and drink outlets offering festive themed favourites such as roasted chestnuts, bratwurst, and mulled wine.
Westonbirt, The National Arboretum
A particular highlight to visit at any time of the year, Westonbirt is best known for its rich display of autumn colour. The enormous diversity of leaves, with over 2,500 different species, found at Westonbirt, is unsurpassed here in the UK creating a botanical experience that should be on top of your to do list!
There’s also an Enchanted Christmas Trail open from 24th November - 23rd December which will definitely fill you with Christmas cheer! Father Christmas’ Elves have been busy decorating the trees with twinkly lights creating a stunning light display, bringing joy for all the family or equally fitting for a romantic stroll.
Winter Wonderland at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway
On weekdays between 1st - 15th December at Cribbs Causeway you can enjoy free early years story mornings and at weekends, and the week leading up to Christmas, you'll find Santa and his happy huddle of elves in a fabulous festive show!
Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park
Another stunning light installation not far from the castle, is that at Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park. The lake, trees and play areas will be illuminated creating a magical experience for everyone - there’s even a Santa's grotto and miniature steam train. Book now from 1st December - 31st December.
