With a fascinating history and a fabulous future ahead, another chapter in the Thornbury Castle story begins.
2020 heralds the start of an exciting new era for Thornbury Castle, as we embark on a multimillion-pound refurbishment programme. This will result in a luxurious and sophisticated castle hotel experience, with reference to the history and traditions of Thornbury’s most famous owner; King Henry VIII.
The full-scale refurbishment will cover all of the hotel’s 27 bedchambers. Each will be beautifully re-designed, encompassing traditional materials and artisan design, in order to maximise the unique regal ambience. Bedchambers will feature luxurious fixtures and fittings, along with a full upgrade to all bathrooms.
Alongside the bedchambers, the public areas – including our lounge and library, reception and event spaces – will also be upgraded with beautiful hand-painted ceilings and stunning floorings – take a look at our moodboard for a sneak preview. The hotel’s award-winning restaurant will also be undergoing a complete refurbishment, creating an ambience that will offer a more intimate and unique dining experience. View the moodboard here.
A restoration of our Tudor walled gardens has already begun, including the recent creation of two magnificent labyrinths which have been inspired by the medieval Chartres labyrinth pattern. They’ll feature 57,000 bulbs, which will flower on a year-round basis, with seasonal flowers appearing every eight weeks throughout the year. It will be a stunning and colourful spectacle in all seasons and is sure to impress all who arrive at the castle.
This exciting refurbishment will be taking place during the summer of 2020, with completion of phase one ready for our guests to enjoy from autumn 2020.
This is an exciting new era for Thornbury Castle, and this significant investment demonstrates our 100% commitment to ensuring that our guests – existing as well as new – have the most wonderful and memorable experience when they stay with us.
We hope that you will all be as excited as we are, so watch this space for further news!
