An evening with Drappier Champagne, Friday 7th November

Savour the occasion and enjoy a fine dining, bespoke five-course menu with exceptional wine pairings. View menu here.

Guests will be welcomed by a Drappier & Drouhin Oregon representative who will introduce the winemakers and will be leading the guided tasting. Meanwhile, a delicious bespoke menu will be created by our Culinary Director, David Williams and his team, to perfectly match the wines being presented.

Each dish has been carefully balanced – and each glass chosen to complement the food. As you dine, you will be told the story behind each bottle, its origins, tasting notes and techniques.

CHAMPAGNE PRODUCER

For one of Champagne’s most forward-thinking producers, Drappier has no shortage of historic roots.

An eighth-generation family business, the house was founded in 1808 and occupies magnificent twelfth-century cellars built by Cistercian monks. Having spearheaded the revival of Pinot Noir in the region, in the 1930’s, Drappier continued to innovate, see such examples below.

*Rose in a clear bottle was introduced in 1968.

*Extremely low levels of sulphur are used, and there is even a no-added-sulphur cuve made.

*The liqueur d’expedition is matured for over fifteen years in oak and demi-johns.

*Drappier is the only house to ferment every format, from half-bottles up to the gigantic 30-litre Melchisedech, in the bottle in which it is sold.

VINEYARD

Over half of Drappier’s production comes from the family’s own vineyards near their base in Urville. Viticulture is close to organic, with horse-drawn ploughing, cover crops and natural fertiliser used.

WINE PRODUCER

When Joseph Drouhin established his eponymous négociant company in 1880, he could scarcely have imagined that his family name would one day grace an estate in Oregon.

Purchased by his grandson Robert in 1987, Drouhin’s Dundee Hills vineyard was joined in 2013 by Roserock Estate in the Eola-Amity Hills. The original site has a remarkable similarity in climate, latitude and aspect to the great vineyards of Burgundy, whilst Roserock has a cooler climate and volcanic soils. Both produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of great clarity and finesse. Robert’s children Véronique and Philippe, who oversee winemaking and viticulture respectively, are also on hand to ensure the Drouhin style is present whilst simultaneously allowing Oregon’s unique terroir to shine through.
