Christmas at Thornbury Castle

Festive Season at Thornbury Castle

CHRISTMAS EVE

You are invited to check in from 3pm but should you arrive earlier, why not join us in the lounge for a delicious Cream Tea which is served from 1pm until 4pm. You can relax and unwind by playing a choice of board games or if you prefer, a spot of croquet out on the lawn. During the afternoon, we will have our carol singer in the Tudor Hall which you can enjoy along with a hot chocolate or mulled wine.

Then from 7.00pm, guests are invited to join us for a Champagne reception and an assortment of canapés before our three-course dinner is served. There will be live music provided for your entertainment. After dinner, those guests who wish to attend a Christmas church service may walk next door to St. Marys Church for the Midnight Eucharist; alternatively to the Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King, situated further towards Thornbury town centre. Upon return to the castle, you can enjoy a hot toddyin front of the fire before retiring to your bedchamber to await the sound of sleighbells!

 CHRISTMAS DAY

A delicious breakfast will be served in our restaurant between 8am and 10.30am, or relax with breakfast served in your bedchamber, whilst you unwrap the goodies in your Christmas hamper! From midday, enjoy a pre-lunch Champagne drinks reception by the Christmas tree with live music, followed by our four-course Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. This will be served from 12.30pm until 2pm at your pre-reserved times.

From 3pm, feel free to join us in our lounge and library to listen to a live radio broadcast of the King’s Christmas message while enjoying tea, coffee and Christmas lattice. From 3.30pm, embark on the Tudor Quest – the search for a mysterious lost jewel ‘The heart of Jasper Tudor’, believed to be hidden in the castle grounds. Croquet and board games will also be available. From 6.30pm guests are invited for a pre-dinner festive cocktail followed by a delicious, informal buffet dinner served in the lounges – for those with room left in their tummy!

BOXING DAY

Between 8am and 10.30am, a hearty breakfast will be served in the dining room after which you may wish to take part in traditional Tudor activities from 11am until 3.30pm, including axe throwing and longbow. These activities will need to be booked prior to the day.

We’ll then be serving traditional Afternoon Tea served by the fire in the lounge or in the restaurant between 1pm and 3pm. You can enjoy an assortment of our Executive Chef’s cakes, scones, sandwiches, and premium tea selection.

From 6.30pm, you are invited to join us for a pre-dinner glass of Champagne in the lounge, followed by our five-course Gala Farewell Dinner from 7.30pm where you will be entertained by live music throughout the service. Black tie optional dress code.
